AR-15 Rifles For Sale
What is an AR-15 rifle, what it is not and why buy one. First, the AR-15 is a rifle platform that shoots the .223 Remington and the 5.56x45mm NATO round. It is a semi-automatic rifle that requires a squeeze of the trigger for each round fired. It features a detachable magazine with capacities of 5 rounds, 10 rounds, 20 rounds, 30 rounds up to a 100 round drum magazine.
What it is not is an assault rifle. The designation "AR" does not stand for "Assault Rifle" like so many believe. It actually is a designation from the original manufacturer, Armalite. "Armalite Rifle" is the most accepted designation forming the "AR". The term "Assault Rifle" is said to come from a few different sources and some believe it is not even a real term. Those in the industry that do believe it is an actual term, apply it to fully automatic machine guns. Machine Guns are highly regulated in the United States and very expensive to buy. Even the machine guns that can be bought by the civilian market, must have been manufactured prior to 1986 and registered with the ATF. The AR-15 is actually designated as an MSR, and acronym for Modern Sporting Rifle.
Why buy one? The AR-15 Rifle is used for many legal purposes. They are carried by law enforcement, used by competition shooters, hunters and the recreational shooter at local ranges. A very common reason for a civilian to purchase an AR-15 Modern Sporting Rifle is for personal home defense. Its light weight, fairly short length, excellent accuracy and a a highly effective round, make it a preferred choice.
The AR-15 is made by a variety of manufactures with several different models and a wide array of colors. It is the most highly accessorized firearm today. There are many optics and scopes, different types of rails with picatinny rails, Key Mod rails and M-LOK rails that provide attachment points for lights, red dot sights and slings. The plethora of upgrades available in the market allow additional customization with better made trigger groups, specially coated bolt carriers, better stocks, flip-up sights, muzzle brakes and more.

The AR-15 is a lightweight semi-automatic rifle based on the ArmaLite AR-15 design. It is manufactured by many different companies. The non-informed members of the public (including the media) have said the AR-15 standard for Assault Rifle. The original design for the ArmaLite was a scaled down version of Eugene Stoner’s AR-10 design.
The design patent for the rifle was sold to Colt in 1959, later Colt had a few patents expire on related components and they chose to retain the trademark for the AT-15 designation.
Since 2,000 political powers have sought to ban the style of rifle and there was a ban on the branded AR-15 by colt for a decade. Fortunately for gun enthusiasts those bans dropped, and access is now available again. The uncertainty of its availability likely has contributed to its popularity and sales.
