Dan Wesson Specialist Commander, 45ACP, SS

A full-size 1911, the Specialist is chambered in .45 and loaded with features to satisfy a public servant’s special requirements. The forged stainless steel slide wears our inverted top rib with a single amber tritium dot in the rear sight and a green lamp with white target ring in front. The frame sports an integral 1913 Picatinny, 25 LPI front strap checkering, undercut trigger guard and recessed slide stop to enable the installation of laser grips. Equipped with an ambidextrous thumb safety, extended magazine release, and detachable magwell, the Specialist is operator-friendly. It is finished off with a set of G10 VZ Operator II grips that force the hand into the beavertail and hold it there. The Specialist ships with two 8-round magazines with bump pads (10 rounds in 9mm) and is available in either a matte stainless finish or our Duty Black finish, which makes for an especially hardy pistol that scoffs at everyday wear and tear. The forged stainless steel slide wears our popular Clark-style serrated rib with a single amber tritium dot in the rear sight and a green lamp with white target ring in front.

Bringing the heavy, match-grade barrel from our Officer-size ECO to a bit bigger platform, the Enhanced Commander Pistol is a 4” gun that conceals well but is a tack-driver at the range. With a compact, stainless steel slide and a forged aluminum frame, weight is kept to a svelte 29 oz. Our new tapered G10 grips and a bobbed mainspring housing enhance its ergonomics, affording shooters with smaller hands an easier reach to the trigger. A tri-topped slide wears aggressive side serrations and a top rib to knock down glare, while our new U-notch rear sight is matched to our brass-beaded front sight. The bull barrel itself is flush-cut to make for easier disassembly and has a 30 degree crown. With a similar recoil system to the ECO, it has a flat wire recoil spring that is rated for 15,000 rounds – three times the round count of a typical 1911 dual recoil spring setup. With a compact size that melts away when concealed and a beefy bull barrel, the ECP is an ideal 1911 for everyday carry.

The Pointman series has been offered in limited quantities in the past, and demand always outpaces production capacity. Featuring our serrated rib on top of the forged slide, it has an adjustable target sight in the rear and fiber optic sight in the front, and front and rear cocking serrations. The frame is forged stainless with an undercut triggerguard and 25-LPI frontstrap checkering. The flats are polished to a soft brushed finish, and the rounds are sandblasted for a nice contrast. The Pointman series is built for the range, with an adjustable target rear sight and fiber optic front. Its forged slide has the Clark-style rib running between the sights to reduce glare and has front and rear cocking serrations to enable easy manipulation. The forged stainless frame has an undercut trigger guard to get the hand a little higher on the pistol and 25 LPI front strap checkering to hold it firmly in place without being too harsh. Flats on this pistol are soft brushed while the rounds are sandblasted, giving a nice contrast. Double diamond cocobolo grips finish it off.

Each Dan Wesson Firearms 1911 and revolver bears the name of Daniel B. Wesson, who founded Wesson Firearms Co., Inc. in 1968. The great-grandson of D. B. Wesson, co-founder of Smith & Wesson, had a goal to build the finest revolvers that the shooting world had ever seen. He accomplished this by creating guns that were innovative, virtually indestructible and capable of match-grade accuracy right out of the box.
Dan Wesson was a perfectionist, preferring to build a few truly great guns, rather than many merely good ones. In an era of mega-corporations and bottom-line management, he would never allow quality to be sacrificed for the sake of quantity. And it didn’t stop there. His philosophy was “You can never be fully satisfied. You can always make something better.” This kept him on a course of constant improvement, while providing his customers with the very best revolvers that money could buy.
In 2005 CZ purchased the Dan Wesson brand and has used its design and engineering expertise to improve both the Dan Wesson lines, and its own firearms. Sharing elements of design that their customers loved, and features that improved performance and dependability.
